Bd.1: 451 Seiten, Bd.2: 441 Seiten. Bei diesem Exemplar handelt es sich um den sehr seltenen Erstdruck der Erstausgabe auf starkem Papier (Während des 2. Weltkrieges war das Papier in der Schweiz rationiert, weshalb zum Druck unterschiedliche Papierstärken verwendet werden mussten). W/G1, 251; Milk II, 76. Zustand: Buchrücken minimal aufgehellt, bei Band 2 kleine Stauchung am Hinterdeckel, Schutzumschläge wie stets nachgedunkelt und mit kleinen Altersspuren, jedoch ohne Randeinrisse und deshalb in selten guter Erhaltung - möglicherweise ungelesenes Exemplar! Hesse begann die Arbeit an seinem Opus Magnum Ende 1930 und überarbeitete bis zu dessen Abschluss Teile davon mehrmals. Da der S. Fischer-Verlag in Deutschland für das Glasperlenspiel ein Druckverbot erhielt, wurde das Werk in der Schweiz bei Fretz & Wasmuth veröffentlicht. 1946 durfte Hesse für das Glasperlenspiel den Nobelpreis für Literatur entgegennehmen. 19 x 11.5 cm, 2 vols, light blue full cloth with gold cover initials by H. This copy is the very rare first printing of the first edition on heavy paper (During the Second World War, paper was rationed in Switzerland, which is why different paper thicknesses had to be used for printing). Condition: spine minimally lightened, small compression on the back cover of volume 2, dust jackets darkened as always and with small traces of age, but without edge tears and therefore in rare fine condition - possibly an unread copy! W/G1, 251; Milk II, 76. Hesse began work on his opus magnum at the end of 1930 and revised parts of it several times until its completion. As the S. Fischer publishing house in Germany was banned from printing the Glasperlenspiel, the work was published in Switzerland by Fretz & Wasmuth. In 1946, Hesse was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for the Glasperlenspiel.
