Decoratively blind-stamped eith gilt spine lettering and illustration centre fr.,repeated blind-stamped on back; clean but chip across top sp. and top 3 cm back joint, bottom sp. rubbed, outer cornersjust slightly bumped as to be expected, top edge of text-block has ingrained dustiness. F/piece (line engravings of 11 surgical instruments) + xvi + 356+ 4 ( pub. plug for Southwood Smith's 'The Philosophy of Health'}+ (2, notices of two other works paginated 32-33, presumably from a full catalogue}, un-numbered small text figs intermittently throughout; early initials top fr. end-paper and a trivial very small inscrip. top outer corner fr. pastedown, which also has a small brown patch at bottom, otherwise internally clean, tight and unmarked with no tanning. T.p. says this 2nd ed. has 'many additional hints'. Spine faults reduced my rating to Good+, otherwise VG. Chaps on everything from adder bites and pulling teeth to fractures, burns and piles etc. 10 cm x 14.5 cm
