In the 2000s, New York City's Mysterious Bookshop, owned by Otto Penzler, published a series of stand-alone pamphlets with short essays by noted crime writers about the origin stories of their best-known characters. This set includes both the lettered (26 copies) and numbered (250 copies) issues of this collected volume of 22 of the essays (Michael Connelly's contribution is about Hieronymus Bosch). These books are signed by Penzler as well as by each of the authors on a sheet bound in at the beginning of their essays.
