First edition, first impression, of this important collection of Churchill's speeches on foreign policy, given during his "wilderness years" 1928 to 1938. The speeches warned of the dangers of a re-armed Germany, the threat of Hitler and Mussolini, and the inevitable failure of a policy of appeasement. These warnings were unpopular and largely unheeded, but soon proved remarkably prescient. The collection was also published later that year in America as While England Slept. Cohen A107; Woods 44a.
