On And Off The Field

British and German authors analyse the changing face of football in England and Germany. The book addresses in particular the question of whether one can still speak, in the context of a globalised, postmodern game, of national football cultures that are clearly distinguishable from one another. Contributions in English and German examine a number of different phenomena such as the social background of fans, commercial influences, women’s football and above all the role of the mass media.
