Here's an exceptional copy of a book often forgotten by Poe fanciers. "Edgar Allan Poe" by Edward Shanks (an English critic and man of letters), was published in 1937 by Macmillan . This is the U. S. reprint, also published by Macmillan, but in New York. The front flap of the dust-jacket had been clipped by the publisher, with a new price stamped at the lower corner, which leaves me to assume that this is the second U.S. printing. It's a handsome book, and the presence of the dust-jacket is a pleasant occurrence. BOOK : VERY GOOD DUST - JACKET : GOOD ONLY (Near Very Good) - This is a previously owned book that remains clean, solid and unmarked, with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR : Spine extremities are compressed and display a very slight abrasion; boards display modest abrasion, a touch of smudging along the edges; a small dent on the rear bottom edge; text-block edges are lightly toned, else clean. Gilt on spine is bright. / BINDING : Solid. / INTERIOR : Clean and free of any marking. Other than an inked date on the rear paste-down (February 24, 1940) there are no underlinings - no marginalia - no writing - no signatures. / DUST-JACKET : Compression and wrinkling to spine panel extremities; jacket edges display several small nicks and tears; flap extremities are frayed; all in all fairly bright overall. The jacket is protected from further wear by a clear mylar cover.
