Title page printed in red and black. With 9 plates, some in sepia and some in grey, including portrait frontis. With 270 illustrations in the text, mainly from photographs, several of which are full page. Publisher's half dark green morocco gilt over green cloth boards, gilt trophy on front cover, top edge gilt. In a custom-made quarter morocco solander box with morocco author and title labels. In addition to being signed, there is a tipped-in leaf inscribed in red ink in the hand of the author 'To Mr William Wright with all good wishes from John Kerr. Nov 1920.' Kerr died on 8th December 1920 aged 68, only one month after presenting this copy to William Wright. He was minister at Dirleton, East Lothian, from 1878 until his death. The book was published simultaneously in a small paper limited edition of 500 copies, bound in brown cloth. Because of the weight of this book the binding is easily damaged, and it frequently turns up in not very good condition. Our copy has a neat repair to a small tear at the head of the spine, but is otherwise a very attractive copy indeed. Kerr's book is one of the most important golf books ever written, and a key book in the library of golf.
