Like all cymbogons, Java citronella is an Indonesian herb with long, narrow leaves, stems, and linear inflorescences. It is a large perennial found in tropical regions, both wild and cultivated: Java, Sri Lanka, etc. Its fresh, green, and lemony scent is closer to that of lemon balm, for which it is sometimes substituted.
