Sonda sesión 1-5, Avant Garde music performance program/booklets printed by Grupo Zaj, 1967 – 1968. All performances were made in collaboration with Juventudes Musicales and held at the Institute of Italian Culture in Madrid except for sesión IV, which was at the French Institute. Each program consists of 4 pages – a folded sheet printed black on white glossy paper with title and performer, photograph of performer, list of works played and and examples of a musical score from the musical performance on the back cover. Inside each booklet is a coloured card invitation printed on both sides with performances, composers and performers printed on each side. The typeface and printing style suggests that these booklets were printed by Grupo Zaj. Zaj being primarily a Fluxus musical movement and all but one performance includes the work of Ramon Barce who founded Grupo Zaj with Juan Hidalgo. The compositions played are virtually all Fluxus works from Spain, America and elsewhere. The booklets appear to be some of the earliest work by the Sonda group, which is referenced in a PhD entitled ‘Performing a Political Shift: Avant-Garde Music in Cold War Spain’ by Enrique Sacau-Fereria, Oxford University c.2006, available online. The groups activities are cited as starting in 1967 through to 1974. Also included is a stamped addressed envelope to Tjeerd Deelstra which the programmes were sent in. Deelstra ran a Fluxus shop in Rotterdam in the 1960s and early 1970s.Sonda sesión I, Jorge Zulueta, pianistaIncludes performances of works by Juan Carlos Paz, Stockhausen, Charles Ives, Ramón Barce, Mauricio Kagel and others.18 November 1967Sonda sesión II, Carlos Santos, pianistaIncludes performances of works by John Cage, Gordon Mumma, Morton Feldman, Tshi Ichiyanagi, José Luis de Delás, Carmelo Bernaola, Ramón Barce, Walter Marchetti, Tomás Marco, Juan Hidalgo and others.17 January 1968Sonda sesión III, Pedro Espinosa, pianistaIncludes performances of works by Ernesto Rubin de Cervin, Barce, Miguel Ángel Coria, Agustín González and Tomás Marco.12 June 1968Sonda sesión IV, Joaquín Parra, pianistaIncludes performances of works by B.
