Posthumous first edition of this polemical work by the abbot J.-B. Thiers (1636-1703), parish priest in the diocese of Chartres, accompanied by a new edition of the Dissertation originally published in Brussels in 1670. The Dissertation is by Thiers according to Barbier and Que?rard. Jean Baptiste Thiers, a French divine, was born at Chartres, Nov. 11, 1636. He was professor at the College du Plessis in Paris, and was, in 1666, appointed to the incumbency of Champrond in Gastine (Chartres). Here he came in conflict with the archdeacon of Chartres, and went to Ribraye (Meuse), where he died, Feb. 28, 1703. He published a number of works, including De Festorum Diesrum Imminutione (Lyons, 1668), which was placed on the Index 'donec corrigatur' ('forbidden until corrected') by the Vatican.
