Autograph letter signed, one page - addressed to the reverse of a conjoined sheet, 4,75 x 7,25 inch, Montlignon, 26.09.[1835], in French, to Jean-Baptiste-Roger Fauchon D`Henneville - concerning the upcoming funeral of Italian opera composer Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835), written and signed in black ink "L. Cherubini",attractively mounted (removable) for display with aportrait picture of Luigi Cherubini (altogether 11,75 x 8,25 inch), with scattered mild signs of age wear, and a small area of paper loss to a corner of the address sheet (text unaffected) - in nearly very fine condition. Accompanied by a facsimile pencil portrait of Cherubini. Provenance: Johannes Brahms (loose bookplate reading `Aus dem Nachlasse Johannes Brahms / no. 384 / Die Erbenvertretung Hamburg - Wien` and wrapper inscribed `Cherubini`, perhaps in Brahms` hand); Sotheby`s, 12 May 1981, lot 81. In parts:"Mon cher D`Hennevilleje serai de retour à Paris lundi dans la matinée; veuillez en attendant, si vous ne l`avez fait déjà, veuillez [.] donner l`ordre de mettre, toute ce qui regarde le Conservatoire, à la disposition de la commission qui doit organiser le service funéraire de ce pauvre Bellini [.]de ce compositeur à quel j`étais véritablement attaché [.]" Translated:"My dear D`HennevilleI will be back in Paris on Monday morning; Please in the meantime, if you have not already done so, please [.] give the order to place everything that concerns the Conservatory at the disposal of the commission which must organize the funeral service of this poor Bellini [ .] of this composer to whom I was truly attached [.]"
