Citizen Smith - Original Typescript For Series 2, Episode 2: "Speeds Return", Plus Covering Letter Sullivan, John

Comprising: Title page, blank, Rehearsal Running Order, then 71 pages of script, the pagination running to 70 but with additional page 1A. The script is bound together with a butterfly clip, the title page and rear sheet have tape repairs and are quite grubby, marked and torn, the corners are creased. The Producer, Dennis Main Wilson's own "Final Master" rehearsal script, later given to Sullivan, showing plenty of signs of use and with handwritten alterations, annotations and additions to the text. With a typed and signed letter from Sullivan dated 30th October 1978, presenting the script to fellow writer, Alan Wightman, with advice and encouragement in his own career which was then in its fledgling stages. Sullivan wryly notes regarding the script: "You'll notice lots of cuts and minor re-writes, this, I'm afraid, is the fate of all scripts. (Writers don't drink because they like the taste, they use it as spiritual morphine!)". Citizen Smith was Sullivan's big break and lead to the huge success of Only Fools and Horses. The episode was initially broadcast on December 1st 1978, so the date of the letter indicates that Sullivan sent Wightman the script pre-broadcast.
