Later (?) yellow boards, printed cover-label, original printed wrappers bound in, 8vo, pp [385]-403. An article by John Leicester Warren, later to become the 3rd Baron de Tabley (1835-95), examining the early works of Tennyson and differences between their first appearances in print and later publications. A well-regarded poet himself, Warren later became a close friend of Tennyson. Thomas James Wise in his 1908 bibliography of Tennyson incorporated substantial detail about the textual changes Tennyson made to his poetry, some of it deliberately misleading to boost Wise's own forgeries (and some of it unintentionally incriminating Wise). John Carter's interest in the article was no doubt to see where Warren's account might have influenced Wise. John Carter's copy with his ink additions to the cover-label and his signature on the front free endpaper, boards duststained, some wear to spine and corners, otherwise Good.
