First of this edition (Number Line to 1). The book was originally published in 1922. You can see the covers in the photos. They are exceptionally clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The spine ends have just a little bit of crinkling. There is one thin crease or wrinkle off the top edge of the front cover just adjacent to the spine. The cover edges are in solid shape, one spot of wear (no rub-through) at the rear top edge just adjacent to the corner. The page edges look very good. The book is square and the spine looks straight. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers are a maroon color. They are very clean and look very good. The pages are in excellent condition. I'm not finding any creasing. They are exceptionally clean. I'm not finding any soiling. There are no markings. No attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It's also very clean. I'm not seeing any conspicuous wear. There are no tears. The flaps are in excellent condition, very clean. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. From the dust jacket: 'A comedy of eros that will charm all fans of Wharton's work.' Of Wharton's work Gore Vidal is quoted in a blurb: 'There are only three or four American novelists who can be thought of as 'major' -- and Edith Wharton is one.'
