An original watercolour study, on cream paper, of an Aechmea species by Stuart Lafford, signed lower left. This illustration was reproduced on p. 178 of "The Hamlyn Guide to House Plants" by Alan Titchmarsh and published in 1982. Image 240 x 145 mm, frame 435 x 325 mm. Double mount, the upper of which with a gilt ruled border. Gilt and green frame, slightly rubbed. The painting in very good condition. [Biography: - Stuart illustrated many books on gardening, dinosaurs, fungi, landscapes and all forms of wild life. He won RHS gold and silver medals and painted three Chelsea plates. Some of his original works are held in the collections of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and Diana, Princess of Wales.
