Lucha Libre Poster Featuring Kid Vanegas Arsacio (Kid) Vanegas Arroyo, 1922-2001 Social Movements

Roughly cut, approximately 8 1/2 x 26", printed in red and green on thin orange paper. An early Lucha Libre poster which includes by Kid Vanegas, aka Arsacio Vanegas. Vanegas was the wrestler who taught Che Guevara, Fidel Castro and the soldiers of the Granma Yacht expedition self-defense, and harbored several of the combatants in his home. The Vanegas Arroyo family was no stranger to the Cuban struggles. His grandfather, the printer Antonio Vanegas, was friends with José Martí and printed early texts of Cuban Independence, as well as works by Posada. Vanegas died in September of 2001. Fidel Castro wrote the following elegy for him in an open letter to his friends: "He conocido con profundo pesar la noticia del fallecimiento de Arsacio Vanegas, y deseo hacerles llegar mi más sincero sentimiento de condolencia. Folded once, with an additional crease at fold line, else near fine and bright.
