This is an antique sports book, "The Complete Instructor" - containing an early American account of the 'many exercise' of BOXING. 1881; Max Stein Publishing House; Chicago. Softcover with 94 pages. The book contains numerous illustrations. Though the front cover lists "Boxing, Swimming, Gymnastics, Pedestrianism, Horse Racing, Prize Fighting, Boat Raceing [sic], and Other Sports," the actual contents are as follows: Boxing, Pedestrianism (a 19th century form of competitive walking), Gymnastics, and Swimming. There are six pages of publisher's advertisements at the back. Condition: Staining/soiling to the cover. The paper has chipped away at the top and bottom edges of the spine. The covers have pulled a bit from the top and bottom edges of the spine, though they remain securely attached. A few pages at the back have some soiling at the upper-outer corners.otherwise the pages are clean. A worm-hole is present at the upper-outer corner from the 1st page up to page 66. The title page has a piece missing at the bottom-right corner. Pages 8 & 9 each have a tear at the bottom-right corner. The last 3 pages have a small tear at the top edge. A few pages at the front also have a small tear at the top edge. Overall the book is in Fair condition.
