Advantages of Flanged Mount Design More and more manufacturers are turning to Flange Mount cylinders for a reason. Compared to conventional stud-mounted cylinders, FL designs offer several key advantages: FL cylinders are fundamentally more stable and more precisely mounted. By eliminating the stud bolts, the cylinder is much better protected against torsional forces, and the cylinder head sits much more precisely due to the direct attachment to the cylinder. For manufacturers, the elimination of stud bolts results in more space, which offers greater potential for optimizing the design of the transfer ports, which is particularly advantageous for exhaust port layout.
