Jerry Wald is best remembered for his long and successful association with Warner Brothers as both a screenwriter and producer of a number of notable films, including "Mildred Pierce" (1945), "Humoresque" (1946), "Key Largo" (1948), and "Flamingo Road" (1949). In the 1950s he moved to Twentieth Century-Fox, and was the producer there for "An Affair to Remember" (1957), "Peyton Place" (1957), and "Sons and Lovers" (1960). Based on the 1920 Broadway play "The Hottentot" by Victor Mapes and William Collier, Sr. Previously made as the 1922 silent film "The Hottentot," directed by James W. Horne and Del Andrews, and starring Douglas MacLean and Madge Bellamy, and in 1929 as the early talkie "The Hottentot," directed by Roy Del Ruth, and starring Edward Everett Horton and Patsy Ruth Miller, now lost. Dick Powell stars as a sports store salesman who poses as a famous jockey to advertise a line of riding clothes. He keeps up the charade to impress the young Anita Louise, only to become entangled in his lies when two gamblers try to fix him up with a wild horse named Jeepers Creepers. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Jeepers Creepers" by Harry Warren and Johnny Mercer, and sung by Louis Armstrong. Bound in maroon leather with gilt titles on the front board and spine.
