Complete with bilingual tile pages, 40 pages of text and 24 magnificent hand coloured aquatint plates. Slight even toning but generally clean internally. Mayer (1755-1803) was financed by the British Ambassador to Constantinople, Sir Robert Ainslie, to produce a series of views in what was then the Ottoman Empire, including Egypt (originally published 1801), Caramania (1803), and Palestine (1804). This volume covers views from Mayer's travels in Karamania (along the southern Anatolian coast in Turkey) to the Mediterranean islands of Rhodes and Cyprus, Corinth in Greece outside Athens, and then to Carthage and Triopli on the Barbary Coast (Libya) of north Africa.
