Map Of Hollywood - Pictorial Map Issued During The Golden Age Of Hollywood. George Pepperdine Foundation

This uncommon pictorial map of Hollywood, California was issued in the late 1930s by the George Pepperdine Foundation. The organization was established in 1931 by it's philanthropic founder to focus on charitable Christian causes like education and nutrition. Several properties were acquired to help fund the foundation's causes, and it was their promotion for which the map was originally issued. The image provides a simple overview of Hollywood during the era of the 'Talkies.' A handful of illustrated vignettes highlight major landmarks and locations of interest, with an inset in the upper left showing the route of Sunset Boulevard to Malibu. Eighty-five different numbered locations are identified in the key on the right side, including the Will Rogers Polo Grounds, Pickfair, Charlie Chaplin Studios, the Trocadero Cafe, and Grauman's Chinese Theater. The verso features two large-scale street plans that pinpoint the locations of the seven commercial properties owned by the Pepperdine Foundation, notably the Olympic Hotel off Wilshire Boulevard. Condition B Condition Description Six panel folding map, printed on both sides and formerly separated. Heavy repairs on the verso with archival materials have brought the item back to life, though there remains a large chip in the upper left edge and a few other spots of wear and toning.
