The boards have rubbing along the edges and to the corners. The gilt lettering, raised bands and decorations to the spine are reasonably bright. Light browning to the page edges. Marbled endpapers and page edges - the front free endpapers in both volumes have the bookplate of Anthony Edwards, Life Fellow of Gonville & Caius College and retired Professor of Biometry at the University of Cambridge. This book was part of his collection of Cambridge books which was a reflection of his keen and active interest in the governance of the Collegiate University. There is a note in pencil to the reverse of the front free endpaper in the first volume to the effect that the plates have been removed. The half-title and title pages in the first volume are browned and there is some browning and spotting to a small number of pages where the plates were once present - most of the plates were in the second volume so that is generally where the browning can be found with only a little browning in the first volume.
