A handwritten genealogy of the Thorp family of Aldbrough and Hull. copied in an attractive hand by William, the Uncle of Joseph Thorp in the 71st year of his age and beginning with the entry of William Thorp, son of William, who was married to Elizabeth Leef, 3 March, 1730 and with subsequent entries of births, marriages and deaths until the 1830's, with one entry (in a different hand) being dated 1921 There follows a large number of leaves containing proverbs, quotations, Scripture passages, Addison's Hymn to Gratitude, Pope's Universal Prayer, Cowper's Selkirk, Thrale's Three Warnings, the address to the Mummy at the 1821 Bebzoni exhibition, Shepherd of Ettrick,Burns' Own Epitaph, and others, all written in the same neat hand. Leaves are all clean and in good order, the leather wallet worn and scuffed, clasp still funcitonal.
